The Binos v Elgin City

Recommended Posts

This Saturday we face Elgin at Forthbank and hopefully we can get off the mark and get our 1st win of the season in the League.

Need to start picking up points and getting away from the bottom of the table. Can we do it on Saturday I am hopeful.

Elgin come off the back of a good midweek win away to Dundee in the Challenge Cup and will come to Forthbank in a confident mood.

If we can create and more importantly score a few of the chances we get then it might be our day.

Prediction Binos 1 Elgin 0.

Ps let’s hope it’s not 6 defeats in the row. 🙁

Have we ever won with him being the referee?  I can’t ever recall a victory, so anything other than a loss would be a shock due to the referee alone.  I wouldn’t hold a loss against KR (this week)

I can see us getting a point this week. Roncone or not.

I think we are getting into ‘must win’ territory now for KR, the pressure is building on him and he needs to get off the mark.

The signings of Duffy and now Bikey should be game changers for us, both obviously missed pre-season but hopefully they will get up to speed quickly, if they 2 click, along with a couple of our other attacking players, then I think we can turn this around.

Elgin don’t seem to travel to Forthbank well, but Shane Sutherland seems to be on fire. Really hoping for everyone’s sake that they have another off day.

Quietly confident we can get our season started this week 🙈

They've already beaten soundly earlier in the league cup, and I won't be surprised if it occurs again tomorrow.  There will have to be an enormous change in our playing style and a helluva  lot of good luck.  We'll see.

That’s the spirt! There are a couple of clubs in Glasgow who might fulfil your needs a bit more! 👍🏽

Yes they beat us 3-0 up at Elgin but it’s going to be a different team on Saturday than the previous meeting. We did not have Bikey and Duffy playing for us then and I believe that could be the difference to help us get our first League win of the season.

If we lose this one then the Board will come under pressure to act and get rid of KR.

thank goodness it is a different team. If you let Elgin attack you they will create problems but their defence is suspect and players like Bikey should cause them problems.

I'd want bugger all to do with these 2 clubs and have no time for them.  It's my opinion that Elgin have strikers, players who can score goals, and one especially.  Of course I want my team to win, but I haven't seen anyone in our team to provide goals.  What I would give to have Daz. Smith in our team, rather than sitting on Clyde's bench.

Twitter just advised that Elgin coach booked! Glad to hear it, wouldn’t want them hitching up the A9.

Points on the board. A clean sheet. The record breaking start-to-the-season losing streak is over... No longer bottom of the table. Well done to the manager and the team! Keep it up! Mon the Binos!

Echo previous comments a win is a win but oh dear 2nd half performance today we were very lucky to get the 3 points. Good 1st half but don't know what happened in the 2nd half we allowed them to get back into the game and even with 10 men they looked dangerous.

Off the bottom on goal difference but it will be a tough game away to Annan next week and we will be lucky if we perform like the 2nd half today to get anything. Keeps KR in a job but as previous posters have said its a long way to go. Just hope we can build on this result and get ourselves away from the bottom of this League.

Great win and delighted for the manager and players.  First half should have seen us comfortably ahead but things are not quite clicking into place yet.  We played some nice stuff though.

Thought cammy thomson was immense today and if he could cross the ball he wouldn't be with us for very long.

Banner and mcgregor were really good too and the whole back 4 looked solid.

In the second half, you could see the nerves in the dugout and on the pitch and we did well to see the game out.

Another goal from josh Peters - maybe he'll turn out to be a shrewd signing after all.

But well done to everyone.  Great team effort.

Season starts here

Will be interesting to see that late chance we had on Ben's highlights too.

I thought mackins header was in when it bounced down from under the bar and a lot of people were shouting for a pen in the aftermath as daryl duffy seemed to be kicked on the head.

And for once Roncone's bizarre decisions didn't cause me apoplexy although I think he got booed off by the Elgin fans

Before the game kicked off, I was telling anyone who would listen that I would take a win of any kind, as long as it was a win and i’m absolutely delighted tonight.

There has been talk of KR having lost the dressing room, well that’s quite frankly pish, everyone that was on the park were working hard for him and their team mates.

Despite it being very much a game of two halves and a game that Elgin would have been well worthy of a point, I think there were so many positives today that it was the first time this season where I have left a game ‘buzzing’.

Josh Peters goal was superb and I thought with him and Bikey playing off Duffy, we looked dangerous and every time we broke forward, something looked like it was happening. Bikey was roasting David Wilson, the Elgin Right Back, and everything was going great. Duffy is an upgrade on Peaso for me, he worked hard again and created loads of space for others to run into, whilst retaining the ball.

Danny Jardine was back in his more natural Centre Midfield position and was making things happen, and with Thomson and Wilson supporting him, it really worked, and we were playing some good stuff. Our problems came when Peters went off but in general I thought we were comfortable at Half Time and probably should have had at least 1 more goal to our name.

The Second Half, we sat off them and that’s when the nerves came through. Our Centre Midfield was being totally over run, and we were really crying out for Kevin Nicol, but the back 4 come to their own and were as solid as a rock. McGregor got the sponsors Man of the Match, and although I could put a few other names forward to challenge his, I think his display definitely merited the praise that he would have received upon picking up his award. I’ve been critical of Banner at times, but he was also composed and the 2 of them battled for everything and kept the head, especially when Kane Hester was losing his.  Sutherland & Hester are a good strike partnership at this level but I thought they were totally ineffective due to those 2 at the back.

I’ve always preferred McGeachie at Right Back rather than in the Centre and again, he couldn’t be faulted and looked comfortable after returning there. I couldn’t believe KR brought James Creaney back to the club in the summer, but more games like that then me, along with others, will have to eat our words because I thought he played really well and Jordon Lowden will struggle to get back into the side, as will Paul McLean.

Is this KR’s “I told you so” moment, no, he’ll have to win a few more games to prove the doubters wrong but it was a massive result for him and one that I am hopeful, will now see us turn the corner. We proved we were a good team today, yip let’s not get carried away, it wasn’t perfect, but compared to the games against Queens Park and Cove then we showed that we are indeed, on our way.

Final word goes to Bikey, it was great to see him back “at home”. KR seemed to get frustrated with him as the Second Half wore on, but I think that had more to do with his Defensive positioning rather than what he was doing on the ball. During the First Half his team mates got him on the the ball loads and I thought he was excellent and the performance that he and Thomson put in in the wide positions, is something we have missed. Bikey is clearly not fit but I hope this is just the start of another successful chapter for the lad, he certainly had me excited again.

Well done today Stirling, proud of you lads 👏🏻

From where I was, I couldn’t argue the header either way, but it looked a stonewall penalty from behind the Away Dugout. As you say mate, will be interesting to see it again but I could of swore it was a penalty.

"Lost the dressing room," is an over used euphemism  for players giving poor performances as far as I'm concerned. That's why I've often targeted my digs at them, more than the manager when it's being chucked about.  I don't do it to white wash managers either. If you play people as wingers/attacking wide midfielders who can't cross a ball, (Chuckits comment) that does come back to the manager, for not signing players who could and trying to fit square pegs in round holes.

"The second half we sat off them and that's when the nerves came through."  Why did we do that?

"Is this KR's I told you so moment?" No it's not, it's his one win from 6 moment.  "the doubters," would have had a rationality bypass operation to be anything else at 0 points from 5.

I'm both relieved and delighted at the win, but I still think lessons have to be learned yet. Maybe this is the start of something maybe it's not, but for today, it's finally a fucking win and that'll do.

Cammy thomson is basically Andy Robertson if he learns to cross the ball properly.  Never seen anyone with such energy.  The run he made towards the end of the second half was breathtaking.  Literally.

As Darth says a win’s a win. Having seen the score 0-1 so many times this season 1-0 for us comes as a welcome relief. Today is a beautiful Sunday for sure and I am going to enjoy it.

PS . While I am looking for consistent wins from now on I don’t really expect KR to deliver just yet.

One thing is for sure. KR will have learned a lot about football management in the last 6 weeks or so.  And will be the better for it.

We need a wee run of positive results though just to settle the nerves.
